MAYUR DANCE  -  UTTAR PRADESH  
Mayur dance is created from an episode of love between Radha and Krishna. This dance belongs to the Braj region of Uttarpradesh. In that Radha , pinning for Krishna after a bried sepration, decides to console herself by the sight of peacocks, whose feathers, Krishna wears on his crown, at the Mor Kuti pavillion. 

Krishna Knowing her mind from afar, playfully causes the peacocks to disappear, leaving Radha distraught. He eventually yields to Radha's entreaties and himself appears in the guise of a peacock to dance with his beloved.
   
The charkula dance, associated with the braj area of u.p., is popular among the brahman community of the villages in mathura district. while dancing women carry the chakra with a multi-tiered wheel weighing almost 50 kg. on their heads. this chakra has 108 oil earthen lamps placed on the rim of each wheel and pots in the centre. the faces of the women are veiled throughout the performance
   

Barsane ki latmaar holi

in the month of phalgun when it is spring time and nature appears fresh and lively , the people of holy braj gear themselves up to celebrate holi - the festival of colours.the tradition originated since the time of legendary lord krishna and radha- the divine lovers. at radha`s birthland barsana in mathura and at nandgaon - the place of lord krishna , this traditional fest is still observed in joyous spirit and with religious fervour.

Diwali dance

a dance performed exclusively by the ahir (milkmen) community during diwali and very popular in the district of hamirpur, mahoba and banda of uttar pradesh, is known as diwali nritya or stick dance. stick dance as its name denotes its martial character, the dance is performed by males who move in circles holding long sticks in their hands and tie ghoongrus in their feet and waist to provide rhythm and fast movements to the dance.

this traditional saira dance hails from bundelkhand region of uttar pradesh and is very popular in the districts of hamirpur, jhansi and lalitpur. this dance is performed, with the sticks in the hands of dancers, by the young girls and boys of peasant community during the rainy seasons. the vedic god indra, is worshipped for his blessings for a successful harvest.
